Starting early gives your child the best opportunity for success. Little Arts encourages children to develop their innate musical ability. This year-round program introduces little ones to the fundamentals of music through fun lessons with an expert teaching artist. Choose a primary instrument or start with general music.

Children ages 4-5 can attend music class to learn basic skill and have fun engaging their natural love of music while stimulating social engagement with other children. Choose this class a' la carte" or bundle it with a Little Arts Membership.

FAQs

Our Teaching Artists (Instructors), listen and evaluate the student’s practiced assignments and follow up with corrections and enhancements. Technical skills are taught, and artistic choices are considered. Most lessons will begin with “warm-ups” or drills, followed by technical pieces sometimes called “etudes”, and repertoire (longer pieces typically studied for performance purposes).

Ensembles are fun groups of musicians who rehearse and perform together. At YACM, every LITTLE-Arts, CORE-Arts and PRO-Arts student is assigned to an ensemble and performs with that group each semester. During ensembles students learn skills that advance their musicianship by learning to keep time, blending, soloing, keep up with the group, follow the music and conductor, and gain a greater appreciation for everyone's musical contribution.

The most important commitment at YACM is daily practice and parent involvement. Each student is expected to practice with an intentional desire to improve daily. Parents of children under 12 are asked to attend lessons and facilitate quality practice at home. During daily practice, your child will master the skills presented at his lessons and cultivate the resilience to overcome musical challenges.

Resistance to practicing is normal. Children and adults naturally tend to resist doing things that are difficult. And make no mistake, practicing music is difficult. Human beings are born musical. This means your child will love to play or sing a song they’ve mastered, or even “noodle around” excerpts of songs they’ve heard. You may hear that song over and over. That is the proof they want to be a musician. Here’s how you can help. Be involved in a supportive way. Come to their lessons, understand the challenges, and help them practice at home. Don’t over schedule them. Don’t accuse and threaten them. Always communicate with your instructor.
