Vacaville)

Led by West African drum and dance master Tyehimba Kokayi, the 1-hour class will engage children and parents in a high energy experience centered in West African tradition. For American’s, drums are typically used for entertainment. In the African culture, drums are used to herald social, historical, political significance. They invite community involvement and provide everyone with a way to participate.  During the class, the exuberant professor Tyehimba, will lead participants to enjoy basic rhythms and movements at the heart of Africa’s culture.

Professional drummer, Waverly Cook (YACM alumni 2013) will assist Tyehimba Kokayi at the Library event.

YACM is committed to the power of the performing arts in generating a vibrant and engaged community. We celebrate diverse expressions of the arts and look for opportunities to engage families in enriching experiences.
