Meet Vocalist Rowan Dalisay

Meet Rowan Dalisay, Senior Alto Vocalist at Young Artists Conservatory of Music.

Rowan will perform her Senior Recital, on May 5, 2024 at 2:00 pm at the Saturday Club in Vacaville.

It all started in 2016. I had already been singing since I was a small child. My parents decided that it would t be beneficial to explore vocal lessons as it might be something I could develop into a true talent. A family friend referred us to Young Artists Conservatory of Music (YACM) and after my introductory trial lesson I was hooked. My family encouraged me to hone my skills and expand upon my love of music, and the rest is history.

I am currently a Senior at Rodriguez High School in Fairfield. where I am in the Advanced Jazz Choir. This group helps me explore a variety of genres and open up by voice to other styles of music. I am also a member of the School Leadership Program. In this group I learn to balance responsibilities, which is proving a challenge as I end my high school education, but it's good practice for the future.

My instrument is my voice, and where I have focused my formal training. During the pandemic, I taught myself the basics of piano and guitar, sheerly out of boredom.

I am preparing to present my Senior Recital as an expression of my training to date.

I prepare by participating in intensive rehearsals and lessons. I am a very motivated and focused person which helps me to implement the skills I need to present my best voice. Balancing my personal life, school life, and musical life in a delicate puzzle. It is not easy but I aspire to the challenges ahead of me.

My training at YACM has been made possible by my parents, the conservatory's executive director,"Mrs. Wanda Cook, and my instructor Ed Halbah III. Mrs. Cook provided the leadership to bring a conservatory environment in Solano County. My instructor, Ed Halbach III, provides the training in technical, linguistic, and artistic skills needed for me to excel as a classically trained vocalist. I also like to explore Broadway Musical pieces when I can. Mr. Halbach is heavily influenced by Franz Schubert and Robert Schumann. I discovered I enjoyed the challenge of learning German Lieder. It opened me up to explore other languages in the future. For me it is a lot easier to learn new languages in song than in plain speech. That have been a real joy to me.

My Senior Recital almost doesn't seem real as I can still remember being 9 years old in my first recital at YACM. I see this performance the compilation of all the hard work I have put in over the last 8 years. It is the pinnacle of my education at YACM and I am going to go out with a bang.

After I graduate from Rodriguez High School this Spring, I will be attending UC Irvine to earn my BA in Music. II aspire to be on stage, whether it be Off Broadway, A Touring Company or making it to Broadway, I'd just love performing. I will continue my training and hope my future holds even bigger stages.

I have a variety of musical influences. Eva Noblezada, she is a big influence in my musical journey right now. We have similar voice types. I gravitate to her power, execution of feeling, and I can really relate to her personality. I am also really feeling a connection to Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor Swift who I know are two very different female musicians. I appreciate the expression they present, how gracefully they pull me into topics and express that relate to my personal life.

I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to Mrs. Cook and Mr. Halbach III for the opportunities they have given me. It has been a pleasure to explore music at YACM and I am a product of the excellence they thrive to generate in the community. And of course, a standing ovation to my parents, I couldn't have aspired to be the person I am today without their inspiration, encouragement and support. I am very lucky to have had the opportunities to explore music and expand on my passion which shows when I put it all on the stage. I am grateful for every butterfly in my stomach because it shows me I am doing what I am meant to do.
